11th March 2013
After reading our previous post, we realised we had forgotten to mention that before we allowed the children to experience PLiCS, we first assessed their persuasive writing knowledge and understanding. We did this by assessing a blind piece of persuasive writing. We assessed against First Steps and will be using this data to reassess their final essay. The children will be writing these at the end of our 4 week program (Fingers crossed we see the benefits!).
After allowing the children a couple of days to familiarise themselves with the routine, environment and standards, we decided to include a focus teaching group each day. We believed it was still important for the children to continue to have explicit teaching on persuasive writing. We also were of the belief (and still are) that the groups should not be ability based as this contradicts our understanding of the principles of personalised learning.
For the next three weeks we will be focusing on explicitly teaching introductions, body paragraphs and conclusions.
Wish us luck!
